The Duppy Share is definitely one Rum that's all about the spirit. We ventured to Brixton to meet Dami - it's roving representative to find out more about the Rum, parties and the Duppy spirit behind the Rum.

What’s the inspiration behind The Duppy Share? Above all, it’s to create an individual, high quality Rum with a strong character and flava. The Rum is a fusion of Jamaican Rum from the Worthy Park Estate, which has a punchy, uplifting taste and the mellower, golden taste of Rum from Four Square, Barbados.  In creating The Duppy Share, the founders wanted to move away from old Caribbean stereotypes and tell the story of the Rum from a more local perspective – the name is inspired by Jamaican folklore which often features Duppies or Ghosts. In traditional stories, the Duppy Spirits floated between the islands seeking out the best share of the Rum and where known as Spirit Masters. Like the Duppies, The Duppy Share only takes the best for its Rum.

As a British brand, we also love building the Rum around the relationship between the Caribbean and the UK.  Our events reflect this and we love working with music and brands from both the UK and the Caribbean.

What’s your favourite Reggae track? It’s got to be Rum’n’Redbull - Beenie Man. It’s a real anthem and makes everyone want to move.  We have a cocktail that we base on Rum and Redbull – you can check it out on our site. We have some other great Cocktail recipes too.

What do you enjoy about working for an independent Rum label? I have to say both the product and the people. It’s exciting to be part of a relatively new brand that is both laying its foundations in the market and making new waves.  I work on the Sales and Events side and that means getting out there and meeting people.  I love building relationships with our stockists which range from traditional pubs to Caribbean hang outs like Turtle Bay and The Rum Kitchen. We also work with artists on music events and also with fashion and other lifestyle businesses. There are lots of challenges and no day is the same. I also love moving around, as I tend to mostly rove as my job involves taking the Rum direct to people and businesses to experience for themselves.

You’ve talked about moving around a lot for work, where’s home for you? It has to be Trinidad – a place called Malick.  I was raised there and it has so many wonderful memories and its where I feel most connected.

The Duppy Share is available at most supermarkets and many off-licences. You can also order direct from www.theduppyshare.com
