Blue Mountain Feasting
There’s a little food revolution going on in the hills outside Kingston that flow upwards into the magnificent Blue Mountains, famed for its high quality coffee and organic agricultural produce. As you make the twist and turns out of Papine and up the mountain side towards Irish Town, you can discover some stunning eateries oozing personality, quality cuisine and a big doses of Irie vibes. We took the trail and headed to the following locations to enjoy the food and the views over the mountains to Kingston. It was hard not to fall in love with the clean mountain air, perched cafes and the natural mystic vibes that floated on the breeze. Oh and of course, the earthy, clean living food that makes you feel so good. Here’s a quick look at some of our discoveries. | EITS 17 Mile Post Newcastle Road, Irish Town, St Andrews, Jamaica. EITS has become a Kingstonian institution, run by Robyn Fox it specialises in farm to table cooking and is also much more than a food place offering mellow music and dining events on a regular basis. The winding, mountain Road does not deter people from making the journey, indeed it’s stunning location alongside the food that makes its so compelling. It’s literally a restaurant set into the mountainside with several terraces and rooms to rent. We could have stayed here for ages contemplating life, soaking up the vibes and hearty food. We loved the delicious vegan curry below. British Vogue featured EITS in its June edition that offered a stunning Jamaica feature. BLOOM CAFÉ AND LOUNGE Irish Town, St Andrews Jamaica We adore Adam Beek's Bloom Cafe. It's on the same Road as EITS and is a relatively new opening. Delicious plant based food and wonderful terraces on the edge of the hillside. We fell in love with the fire and outdoor vintage sofa. Watch out for their super stylish music and Zen events and happenings. It's pure chillaxation. You won't want to leave. Oh and its the perfect natural event space or location for a photoshoot. Open Thurs to Sunday 12-9pm @bloomcafejamaica CAFE BLUE and THE GAP CAFE are also excellent cafes on this stretch - we haven't had a chance to check them out yet. They're on the Jamarado list for our Spring Visit so watch this space. Remember to check out opening times. If you are coming from the big smoke cities don't expect all day everyday opening. Call ahead or check websites. |
